The back to school season always puts the focus right back on the kids. We take a look at what they’re learning in school, as well as what they’re not. For example, bullying and finances can affect a child during the school year. To help the child deal with these issues, it may take more than a school can offer. Outside resources can help the situation.

Leave it LEGENDS TV to bring up the important stuff that will help kids succeed in school. The September 7 show featured the musical performance of Jasmine Clemente (Singer), children’s book authors Candi Sparks & Carmen M. Colon, with special guest co-host poet Jon Winell.

As always, the financial conversation revolved around how to teach children the value of a dollar. “There’s a difference between the word ‘no’ and the explanation of ‘not now’ or ‘not yet'” explained Candi Sparks, author of the “Can I Have Some Money?” kid money book series. “In your home, it may be a matter of “earning” the cell phone by doing chores or getting good grades. In another home it may be a matter of giving the cell phone, then revoking the priviledge to teach good habits and behavior, if necessary.”

“Family values are up to the family. Teaching the value of a dollar really depends on working with your child, and what she or he values, as well as the family.” said Sparks.

“”Out on a Limb” is the story of being bullied and how to stand up to the abuse and put a stop to it. It’s the story of me in middle school” said author Carmen M. Colon. “This story is as much about great fathers as it is about peer pressure and bullying.”

Host Evan Ginzburg and co-host Jon Winell each connected bullying and finances with self esteem and the ability to proactively empower children to deal with these issues.

“Get out!” said Ginzburg “at the first sign of abuse.”

“It’s great that Candi and Carmen are working with community organizations and The Girl Scouts to add value to the community” commented Jon Winell.

The feedback from parents is always appreciated. Standing up for yourself is a life skill as much as managing money wisely… Funny how the two go together. Thanks to LEGENDS TV for making this vital connection.
