Love is Priceless

Love is free, but romance can be expensive! How do you handle finance in romantic relationships?

Happy Valentines Day! This is a great time to think about love, which is priceless, and romance which can get expensive!

Is romance affordable? Or is it driving you over budget in grooming, wooing and doing for the loved one?

Are you transparent about your “high maintenance” relationship? Or do you share the same financial priorities, and your budget with each other? There’s no right or wrong – you’ve got to do you. Yet with relationships ending over financial disputes, it pays to have a look at financial behavior. Is romance affordable?

Almost everyone enjoys cards, candies and flowers. It’s wonderful to be acknowledged for being wonderful…

But who is responsible for bringing financial security to the relationship? Is it defined by gender? Is the one who makes the most money responsible for doing the buying? For people venturing out with loved ones for Valentines Day, here’s a a song from back in the day from songstress Gwen Guthrie that talks about finance as a condition to being her real life romance, “Ain’t Nothing Goin’ On But The Rent

Check out the lyrics – and think about whether or not you want your kids to become responsible for someone else’s sink or swim in a dating situation!

Financial education early on is key!

Ain’t Nothin Goin On But The Rent

Bill collector’s at my door
What can you do for me, oh?

No romance without finance
No romance without finance

Boy, nothin’ in life is free, that’s why I’m asking you
What can you do for me?
I’ve got responsibilities, so I’m lookin’ for a man
Who’s got some money in his hand

‘Cause nothin’ from nothin’, leaves a nothin’
You got to have somethin’ if you want to be with me
Oh-oh, life is just serious, love’s too mysterious
A fly girl like me needs security

‘Cause ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent
You got to have a J O B, if you want to be with me
Ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent
You got to have a J O B, if you want to be with me

No romance without finance
I said no romance without finance

Boy, your silky words are sweet
But we’re only wastin’ time if your pockets are empty
I, I got lots of love to give
But I will have to avoid you if you’re unemployed

‘Cause nothin’ from nothin’, leaves a nothin’
You got to have somethin’ if you want to be with me
Oh-oh, life is just serious, love’s too mysterious
A fly girl like me needs security

‘Cause ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent
You got to have a J O B if you want to be with me
Ain’t nothin’ goin’ on but the rent
You got to have a J O B if you want to be with me

No romance without finance
I said no romance without finance
No romance without finance
I said no romance without finance

Oh, you look good to me, your silky words are sweet
But your pockets sure look empty

Woh-ooh, nothin’ from nothin’, leaves a nothin’
You got to have somethin’ if you want to be with me”
